A rotary sliding vane compressor is a continuous flow positive displacement machine. Fluid (gas or liquid) from the inlet enters the spaces between adjacent vanes , where it is trapped. As rotation continues, the vanes are forced radially inward and the space between adjacent vanes decreases, causing the fluid to be compressed before being discharged at a higher pressure. Two or more vanes provide sealing in the zone between discharge and inlet .High-pressure ratio applications may require as many as 20 or 30 vanes. Most rotary vane compressors are limited to pressures of 150 psig (10.3 bar) or less. Although they are light weight and versatile, their efficiency is low compared to reciprocating compressors. Rotary sliding vane technology has been applied for air and gas compression, vacuum services, liquid pumping and transfer of bulk solids.A sliding vane pump is a pump in which the vanes (=flat parts) are the main sealing element between the suction and discharge areas. Sliding vane pumps have spring-loaded vanes that rotate inside the pump casing to move fluids.
